Chapter Membership Assignments

Your webmaster/newsletter editor has been in touch recently with Council Chair Jim Mabrey and TU’s Damon Hearne regarding the issues we’ve been experiencing for some time concerning zip codes and chapter membership assignments. We currently need to reassign the Weaverville zip code as it is geographically out of place regarding chapter assignment.

Currently Weaverville members are being assigned to Tuck chapter when they should actually be assigned to Land-O-Sky chapter in Asheville. I have forwarded a listing of zip codes to Damon Hearne that represent what we presently view as our service area. The one area that additionally has some question regarding it is Macon County. With the addition of the Unaka chapter we seem to have had some of our older members re-assigned to Unaka. It’s possible that we may lose Macon County as part of our service area. I have not yet heard back from Damon but will keep our members appraised of the situation.

We understand the connection that members have to their local chapter.  Some members choose to keep their chapter affiliation even after moving out of the area.  With this thought in mind, we’d like to remind you that ANY member may request to be in a specific chapter regardless of their zip code assignment.

If you would like to belong to a chapter outside of your zip code assignment, please send an email to trout@tu.org with the following information: name, address, member #, requested chapter name and #.  You may also call 1-800-834-2419 and give them the same information.  Doing so will permanently keep you a member of your requested chapter.
